He is or He isn’t

They say that one of the clues to look for if the guy is gay is his knowledge of fashion. I remember the movie Legally Blond wherein Reese Witherspoon’s character was able to win her case was by proving that the witness for the prosecution who was touted to be the woman defendant’s lover was gay. How did she know he was gay? He was able to recognize her Manolo Blahnik shoes earlier when they encountered each other at the water fountain. Another example I remember is the scene in Clueless wherein Cher was airing out to Dionne about her disappointing date with Christian when Dionne’s boyfriend suddenly commented that Christian was a “cakeboy”. They were unbelievers at first and then Dionne commented, “He does dress better than you, Cher.” And to think Cher was the leading fashion icon in their school.

Of course you can argue that these two examples are just fictitious characters but sometimes fictitious stories and characters are based on real people and real situations. However, it is not to say that all fashionable guys are gays and all gays are fashionable. It’s just one telltale sign to look out for in consonance with other telltale signs. But what if, for example, your boyfriend stares for a long time at your French tips and then he asks where you had it done? What would you think? Then he makes you climb the stairs in your stiletto heels instead of taking the elevator because he loves to hear the clickity-clack sound of high heels. Should your gay radar sound an alarm?

Pimples, Pimples Go Away

While growing up, my aunts used to tell me to take care of my skin. Since I am a carbon copy of my mother they were worried that I would inherit her problems with pimples. She used to have a lot big pimples when she was younger and it only lessened when she was in her thirties. Now she still has pimples occasionally. My aunts held up what one of my uncles did as an example of how to get rid of pimples. While he was studying medicine, my uncle had a severe case of acne. During that time acne medicines were not as common as today. It was really frustrating for him. In order to get rid of his acne he did not eat fried fatty foods. He only ate rice, fish and vegetables that were boiled. His staple viand was “hinun-unan” (Visayan term) or “paksiw” (Tagalog term). “Hinun-unan” is usually fish cooked in vinegar and garlic. It really worked. Looking at my uncle now, I can’t imagine that he was a pimply-faced youth. As in all things, getting rid of acne is an exercise in discipline and self-control. Eating only boiled fish and vegetables would really require a lot of discipline.

Good thing I did not inherit my mother’s complexion. Sure I have pimples occasionally but not to the extent that I lose sleep over them.

old-car.jpg

(This car can be found at the old house of the Crisologos in Vigan, which is now a museum. According to the museum curator, the late Congressman Floro Crisologo survived an ambush while riding this car. However, one night not long after, he was gunned down inside the church while attending mass.

It’s nice to visit the museum and view old things like old refrigerators, iron, stereo and others.)

Celebrity Homes

Watching MTV Cribs gives you a glimpse into the homes of celebrities. The show is an eye-opener for ostentatious and opulent living. Celebrities, usually singers, actors, or sports celebrities, open their homes to MTV and the public for a quick tour. Celebrity cribs showcased range from expensive pads to hideously expensive estates. I noticed that male celebrities usually have rooms dedicated to home theater, complete with home theater carpeting. Another thing I noticed is that celebrities have their trophy rooms. Trophies mean different things to different celebrities. For sports celebrities, this room houses their sports memorabilia and trophies while for singers or musicians, this room contains their collection of CDs, awards (if any), favorite instruments and other knick knacks. For other celebrities, their trophy room contains their collections ranging from art to luxurious cars. Seeing all these material wealth surrounding these people, we have to wonder if they are happy and contented with what they have and with what they have achieved.

Audio Books

When I got my Ipod I was very excited about downloading free audio books to put into it. I looked for websites that offered free downloads. I am addicted to romance novels so I looked for audio books from my favorite authors. Unfortunately, I did not find any free audio romance novels but I was able to download one of my all time favorite classic books, Anne of Green Gables. I saved it in my Ipod but I haven’t gotten around to listening to it. Since that download, I also haven’t gotten around to looking for other free audio books. One of these days I will try looking for another favorite, Jane Webster’s Daddy Long Legs.

Speaking of audio books in Ipods, how do I save the audio book under the audio book section and not mixed with the songs under music? I have been trying to transfer the Anne audio book from music to audio book section but to no avail. Does this mean that only audio books bought from Itunes store the only ones that can be saved under the audio books section?

Meeting Former Classmates

I just came from attending a wedding of a college friend. There were only three of us former college classmates who were able to attend. I did not expect Gi, one of our former classmates, at the wedding because she was not part of the gang and she shifted to another course during our second year. It turned out that she and Rache go to the same gym and see each other there regularly. I discovered that Gi was trying to lose weight so that she and her husband can have a baby. It seems that the more overweight you are, the harder it is for the egg to be fertilized. She mentioned that she had tried a lot of gyms already just to lose a few pounds but to no effect because she was just too fond of eating. I did not ask her if she tried weight loss pills. However, exercising and dieting are still probably the safer way to trim down.
