On my way home early this week, I paid the FX driver P20 and told him where I was getting off. I was not expecting any change so I already placed my wallet inside my bag. I was seated in front and I was the first passenger on board. I was happily surprised when the driver gave me P5 change. A few moments later the FX started filling up. I heard the other passengers telling the driver where they were getting off (a lot of them were getting off at the same place I was) and paying him. I noticed that the driver was charging them P20 instead of P15 that he charged me. Hmmm….it must pay to be the first passenger and paying early. Hehehe
I was almost home last Thursday when the tricycle I was riding had to stop. Half a dozen dogs were fighting in the middle of the street and the tryke was not able to get through. Actually only two dogs were fighting, the rest were just cheering them on and trying to get a slice of the action. The people standing by tried to stop the dogs but to no avail until they threw a basin of water on the fighting dogs. I could not get off and start walking because I did not relish wading through the fray. The dogs moved to the corner when water was thrown at them but still continued fighting. A small girl was almost caught in between. Good thing the dogs did not harm her. Anyway, the people continued throwing water at the dogs until the fighting broke up. We were finally able to get through. There are really plenty of dogs in the neighborhood that’s why every morning I have to be careful not to step on anything brown, yellow or sometimes even green.
Ito ang gusali sa harap ng tinirhan naming budget hotel sa Singapore. Nasa pool deck kami nung kinunan ko ng litrato ang gusali. Maganda at malilinis ang mga gusali sa Singapore.
(This is a building in front of the budget hotel we stayed in in Singapore. We were at the pool deck when I took this picture. The buildings in Singapore are beautiful and clean.)
Every time I went to Cebu for the past year, my aunt made renovations in the old apartment. The first part of the house she renovated was the master bedroom to make my grandma more comfortable. She really made a hit with the windows. Instead of the wooden windows, she made it all glass and painted it white. She told me these were French windows and since I don’t know any different, I believed her. The next part she made new was the bathroom. After she was done with it, it became more spacious and very clean. I’m waiting for her to renovate the kitchen, especially the sinks, because these are really old and dirty. When she’s through with all these renovations, then it’s going to be one whole different apartment.
I always wanted to enroll in a self-defense class like karate, aikido or taekwondo. I just never got around to it. It is like taking something to protect you from the danger in the streets and also getting some needed exercise. One summer in high school I studied taekwondo and we even participated in a gathering of taekwondo students where we demonstrated what we learned as a group. Our instructor told me that if I wished to pursue it after summer, I just needed to get my ID so that I can proceed to the next level when I go home. I was in Manila at that time for a vacation. Unfortunately, as in all summer classes, all is forgotten once school starts. Maybe while I haven’t stirred myself to pursue studying martial arts, I’ll think about investing in some self defense products for some peace of mind.
One can really marvel at how technology, especially the Internet, has made things easier and faster for people to accomplish their tasks. Take for example if you want to search for a job, there are hundreds of job sites that can help you disseminate your resume. Another example is if you are a car owner and you want to get different quotes for car insurances, go online. There are sites where online car insurance quotes are available at the drop of hat and getting different quotes from different companies are available in just one site. Then my favorite example is when I want to cook a certain dish but I do not have the recipe for it, I just search the Internet and dozens of recipes for the same dish becomes available. Isn’t it fascinating? I could just go on and on but you know what I mean!
The building where I work was designed and built way before the concept of designing buildings to serve the needs of the physically disabled became popular. Floors have upper and lower levels where the elevators are located in the upper levels and the restrooms are located in the lower levels. It is very difficult for people in wheelchair or in crutches to work in this building because they would not be able to navigate going up or down a flight of stairs on their own to get to the bathroom or to take the elevator. Installing a stair lift is one alternative to make the building a bit more disabled friendly. Of course another alternative would be to demolish the entire building and build a new one. But that would not do since the building is a kind of an architectural landmark in the area.
(The square seats in MacArthur Park. These may be empty when I took the picture but I’m sure when Saturday and Sunday arrives, it will be filled with couples and families spending time in the park. It’s very nice to look at the sea from here and smell the fresh air.)
It is very hard to lose weight. I have tried dieting and exercising, to no avail. Well, maybe I have not tried hard enough to exercise. I am just too lazy when it comes to working up a sweat. As for dieting, it is almost impossible to go on a diet when all your officemates love to eat and there are plenty of people bringing food for the group. The only things I have not tried in the fight against the bulges are those cheap diet pills, or the not so cheap ones. Are there any safe diet pills, like something organic?
When I get so tired of people saying I am getting fat, I tell them, “Why fight the inevitable Both my genetic make up (my mom is on the heavy side and I took after her) and environment conspire to make me gain those pounds. Maybe one of these days I will finally be able to motivate myself to exercise…or maybe not…
