With the way people are abusing their ears with loud music and frequent use of earphones, Audiologist Jobs would never run out. Before, people who were deaf were usually the elderly and those who were really hearing-impaired. However, nowadays, relatively young people have a hard time hearing. In my previous office, we were accused of being very noisy and talking out loud. We never really thought about it but, we could not really hear very well. I admit I sometimes have difficulty in catching some words when somebody speaks in a normal tone. We just pass it off and joke about our hearing conditions but maybe we are really slowly becoming deaf because of too much noise pollution and we’re not even aware of it.
Yoga has been gaining popularity in recent years. I tried it before because one of my friends teaches yoga. I enjoyed it but stopped when she transferred to a new place and I never managed to go back to it. I am familiar only with the yoga mat, but it seems that there are other useful accessories like zafu and zabuton. Maybe once things have settled down I could go back and try yoga once more.
During the Christmas season I shopped for gifts after Christmas day because I was so busy with work and parties. I did not have time to shop for gifts for friends and my godchildren. It turned out to be a blessing because the stores went on sale after Christmas day. I was able to buy toys and other items at discounted prices. Usually, I have a hard time choosing gifts for boys because these are usually more expensive and it is more difficult for me to guess what they like. So, I resorted to buying remote controlled toy cars that were on sale. At least I’m reasonably sure that little boys enjoy cars.

I think I have the commonest face. This morning, one of my officemates told me that the representative from Crowne Plaza I met yesterday said that I looked familiar and that maybe we’ve met somewhere before. She even guessed I was from the Visayas. I guess my Visayan roots are still very much in evidence. Anyway, I tried to recall but I could not remember meeting her before. I even checked out her calling card again. Well, maybe if we meet again, we could talk and trace our past to see where we could have met. Then at noon, I was introduced to one of the education consultants. Our education specialist told the consultant that I came from CHED. The consultant told me I looked familiar. However, I don’t think I’ve met or worked with him in CHED. So that was the second time today. I mentioned to my teammate that two people already told me I looked familiar. Then late this afternoon, another officemate said, “You know, you looked like my bestfriend in school.” Talk about looking like everyone else. When I was in CHED people mistake me for my friend Luisa and vice versa. I guess I could be the model for what a common person looks like because I have a lot of look alike.
I transferred to a new organization as the year started. My new office is in the general area where I used to work before. I like this area because it’s very accessible and near everything. There are three shopping malls in the vicinity and dozens of restaurants and hotels. Unfortunately, before this year ends, our office shall be transferring to a new area. It means that items for material handling would come in very handy since files, documents, furniture, supplies, equipment and other stuff have to be packed and transported to our new site. It’s always a hassle to transfer but with the right equipment, proper procedures and processes in place, stress and tension could be minimized.
On Christmas day I sat alone in our house with the door locked and the curtains covering the windows. I did not answer the door when children exclaimed “Mamasko po.” I just waited for them to leave when they thought that the household members were still sleeping or out. I made the mistake of opening the door when I first woke up. There were plenty of children dressed to the nines who came expecting to receive something. So, in order to get some peace, I closed the doors and the curtains. I did not want to be a scrooge but I do not subscribe to perfect strangers coming to my door and expecting a token for Christmas. It’s like begging. I don’t know how this kind of tradition started. Why would you expect people to give you something, just because it’s Christmas. You should not obligate them to do so, even friends and relatives, much more perfect strangers. I guess I was raised to wait for the gift to be given and not to ask for it. My godparents usually went to our house to deliver their gifts. It’s the same thing with my godchildren. I deliver my gifts to them or to their parents.
Call me Scrooge but that’s just the way I feel.
