It is comforting to see the porch lights on when you arrive home at night. There is no need to feel your way through your door lock and the corresponding key. It is now common for people living alone to install a device to automatically turn on the lights once it gets dark. Not only is it comforting to see lights shining brightly to welcome you home but it is much safer also because you there would be no unknown persons lurking around.
