Nowadays, most people, especially, couples prefer gifts to be in cash rather than in kind. Usually cash or check come in RedEnvelope gifts. I think this is a Chinese custom. Giving money is more practical and useful because the person can buy what he or she needs unlike when giving a thing the person might not appreciate. On the other hand, it takes away the thrill or mystery of receiving a gaily wrapped gift. On the part of the giver, the enjoyment of thinking and choosing the perfect gift is also lost. Well, it’s a case to case basis. If you know what the person wants, then you can make the effort to buy a gift but there are also circumstances wherein a bridal couple will relocate to another country after the wedding, then giving cash would be the way to go.
