Last night 2 of my officemates and I went to a videoke place. Since there were only three of us, we were able to sing as much as wanted. I think we finished 40 tokens between the three of us. We ordered a bucket of San Mig Light. I realized that I can now consume two bottles even without “pulutan” to take away the taste of beer. Usually, I can only drink beer if there are also plenty of nuts and junkfood to eat after every sip. I also realized that two bottles are enough for me to feel the buzz but still remain sane. My friends inducted to me eating frogs. They ordered a dish of cooked frog. The dish was fried then cooked in soysauce and some chili. It did taste like chicken and you can’t really tell it’s a frog from the appearance since they don’t include the head. I guess it was time to be a little adventurous with my palate. While we were winding down from the singing and were eating the dish, Nellie quipped “What if this were my Prince Charming? Then he and I would never meet?” I replied, “You’re supposed to kiss it, not eat it.” Hehe. We were really in high spirits. It was only when I got home that I felt somewhat dizzy. Good thing it was not a very long commute.
I went to church to attend mass but when I got there I was told that there was no 12:15nn mass on Saturdays. The website was wrong then. So I decided to have a pedicure. After the pedicure, I once again braved the intense heat of the midday sun. I bought some mangoes and decided to take a tricycle instead of the jeepney because I did not want to walk because I felt drained by the heat. Also, I didn’t want to hazard my newly painted toes. When I got in the tricycle, I almost fell because I sat on a wooden plank that was used as an extension instead of the seat. I sat there and waited but the driver did not come. I was surprised because usually it does not take long before the driver turns on the engine. I discovered that the driver was missing and I was asked to transfer to another trike. The dispatcher told me that the driver was defecating. Well, I guess even drivers suffer bowel problems while on the job. Who doesnt?
The past months have been very warm. Whenever I stay at home, I always put my hair up because it’s too hot to have it swing freely at my back. I’m very grateful for the inventor of hair clamps because these can hold the hair up better than rubber band with less damage to hair. As much as possible, I don’t wear my hair clamped in public because I always associate it with looking like a laundry woman. Nowadays, women wear their hair that way in public but I guess I just never gotten over the association in my mind.
I was telling a friend about my mom’s plan to buy a car. I told her that I felt that I have to learn to drive soon because I might never learn if it is later because I would be too nervous to drive. I also mentioned that we were also waiting for some money to come in because there are other fees that have to be paid if you buy a car like auto insurance and registration. Then if ever we get a car, I would need to driving lessons, which are already very expensive nowadays. She told me that if you have a car, expect to spend money every year for insurance and registration, not to mention tune-ups and repairs. Hmmm…
Living in the city is very convenient. There are already a lot of 24 hour services. We are not just talking of groceries, fast food places and bars but also of customer service inquiries for credit cards, public transportation, there is even 24 hour towing because vehicles can also break down at the wee hours of the morning. This is in part due to the rise of the call center industry in the country where a lot young people go to work at night thus needing public transportation, a place to eat or buy some essential toiletries. And surprisingly, there are bars and drinking places that also cater to their schedule. This means that bars are not only open at night but also in the morning because that’s when call center employees can party, after their graveyard shifts.
RVs are not very popular in our country. Usually, only actors and actresses have them so that they have somewhere to rest during shootings. I don’t know if the set of skills needed for rv repair are the same as other vehicles. I wonder where those who have RVs bring their vehicles when they need to have it repaired. It must be to some specialized automobile repair shops.
When our office had its anniversary, the last part of the celebration was cocktails at the auditorium. We were encouraged to dress up and there would be a price for the King and Queen of the night. Although we did not really expect to win, my friends and I were excited to dress up. We just wanted to enjoy the party at our company’s expense. I almost didn’t change from my casual attire for the day because I left my dress at home in my hurry to be early for the solidarity walk. Good thing I brought some dresses a few days before so that my friends can try them on. Anyway, when we got to the party, we were quite disappointed that not everybody got into the spirit of things. I did not expect the men to dress up in tuxedos or the women to be in long gowns but they could have at least made an effort. Most of the employees were just in their jeans and t-shirts. I guess they have their reasons. There were also others who dressed up but only few of the guys changed to more formal attire. But after a while we just enjoyed ourselves by eating and dancing. Just when it got interesting, we had to leave in order to catch a ride with an officemate.
Since Monday I’ve been in DAP for training on project management. It’s been around three years since I’ve been to the building. While I was walking from the road to the building I felt like I never left. The scenery was almost the same. The building has undergone a facelift and I saw that they have installed ramps for wheelchairs to be friendlier to the physically handicapped. After the first day session I decided to visit my former officemates. When I got to our floor, it was under renovation. After asking around, I finally got to the right floor. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the new office. It was decorated in contemporary furniture with the cubicles colored orange and off-white. It looked spacious and very bright unlike before when the cubicles were made of wood. Nothing really remains the same but the improvements were very welcome.
Compared to women’s clothing, men’s clothing seem to change in style slower than women’s. Men are lucky because they can get away with just a few clothes and even just two pairs of shoes. However, even if men’s fashion is more conservative and less affected by change, it doesn’t mean that they cannot be victims also of bizarre fashion sense. There are those skinny jeans that boys wear which looks kind of weird for guys. Then are some male actors who wear pants that are only up to the middle of the leg. If they wear it on the beach, no problem, but during noon time shows on television? I’m not so sure.
A friend was telling about how she and some friends joined a run-for-a-cause. They finished a 5 kilometer run in 45 minutes. Being an ignorant, I was prepared to be impressed but she told me it was a very slow time. She had so much fun that she was thinking of joining again in the near future and breaking their “record”. I told her she had to practice in the meantime. She said she plans to exercise using the treadmill available in their condominium building. Instead of treadmill, perhaps she can try ellipticals because I heard that you can exercise at a gentler rate but burn the same amount of calories. Well it does not matter what equipment she chooses as long as she uses them regularly to increase her speed and stamina.
