Here Comes the Rain

I think the rainy season is starting again. It was raining on and off last Friday then yesterday and today is a bit cloudy. This means that umbrellas should always be included in the important things to bring. Buildings will shake out their outdoor rugs in order to minimize the wetness brought in by building occupants and visitors. These rugs will make the janitor’s job of mopping wet floors easier and minimize accidents caused by wet floors. Rainy season can be very inconvenient, especially for commuters like me but if it can lessen the heat that has been plaguing us for the past months and if it will irrigate the cracked farm lands, then I guess all we can say is “bring it on”.

Constant Change

It was only recently that new office furniture were delivered and installed. Now I have my own little cubicle and our work stations look more contemporary with the cubicles and the blue and gray color scheme. I like the arrangements because I have my own space and a sense of privacy. Unfortunately, it seems that I won’t be able to enjoy my new workstation for long because there will be reorganization and everybody in our newly created office will have to go back to our offices of origin. I don’t have a problem with my office of origin but I’ll miss my cubicle and the sense of camaraderie in my new office. I guess the only constant thing is change.

Economics of Sale

I think the reason why malls go on sale is because they know that people want to buy more by paying less. Price cuts from the items on sale make a person think that the value of the item is greater than the price a customer has to pay for that is why it is attractive to him or her. On the side of the seller, the reason he cuts the price is because he already gained profit from the items he already sold previously that’s why he can already afford to cut the price just to sell the excess items and add to his profit.

Old Word, New Concept

You seldom hear the word merchant nowadays. Usually we call those engaged in trade as businessmen. Before in England, the word merchant used to have a bad flavour. Those from the landed classes looked down on those people who got wealthy through trade. Nowadays, merchants, or businessmen as we call them now, make the economy turn. They belong to the elite and usually they make up the most wealthy people list. Moreover, with the advent of cyber economy, it seems that the word merchant is also being more commonly used again, for example, the phrase merchant account reseller, which describes a person who earns a commission for referring a merchant account. It seems that those who engage in trade on-line are now called merchants. I guess that is the beauty of words, sometimes they seem to die out but after a while they resurrect again in another setting.

Adrenaline Rush

There must be something about people who invent extreme sports. I guess these athletes must have higher life insurance rates than the ordinary citizen who does not participate in such death defying activities. Sometimes watching such stunts on TV make just shake my head in disbelief. I read somewhere that these extreme sports athletes are adrenaline junkies and these sports give that adrenaline rush. I remember when we tried to learn how to ski. I was afraid of injuring myself that I never attempted to go up the beginner’s slope. I just stayed below and tried gliding in the short inclines or almost flat surfaces. I guess I missed out on the feeling of the biting wind on my face while I sped faster and faster down the slope.

These were some of the things I saw while commuting this week:

1. Two dogs procreating. They were doing it with their backs to each other and connected together by the boy dog’s organ. It just passed my mind that surely, this is not what is meant by “dog-style”, right? Can humans do it that way?

2. From a billboard in front of the National Kidney Institute:
“Don’t take your organs to heaven. Heaven knows we need them here.” This is a call for people to sign up as organ donors in case they become involved in a fatal accident.

3. I’ve seen this billboard advertisement for sometime already but it never fails to tickle my funny bones. I think this is an advertisement for eye glasses. There’s this handsome and macho guy getting a tattoo and the tattoo on his back says “I love Rudy” instead of the “I love Ruby” written on a pad. Just imagine being in the guy’s shoes should this really happen in real life. Hehehe

Hot Hot Hot

This summer is the hottest one I have ever experienced. During weekends when I just stay home I’m always sweating, not just perspiring but sweating like the proverbial pig. Even the two electric fans focused on me do not help. If only the excessive sweating is a result of consuming fat burners so that I can comfort myself with the thought that I’m losing pounds as fast as I’m sweating. However, I know that it’s just losing water and I’m only getting dehydrated. I can take the sweating by day during weekends but I really hate losing sleep during weeknights because it’s so hot and the electricity is kaputt. Don’t electric company employees know that people have to go to work the next day and they need to sleep well to be productive? Grrr…

More people are now conscious about their weight that is why there is a proliferation of diet supplements, fat burners, appetite suppressants and others. When buying these things, one should always be careful. Make sure that you are buying the real product. Don’t be a victim of fake drugs. There are businesses that perpetrate drug scams like apidexin scam where they sell pills that are packaged as popular brands of diet supplements but are actually fake. So if you want to buy these supplements, buy them at your trusted retail or on-line stores.

Weddings and Souvenirs

I have been attending numerous weddings, first as a child with my parents or aunts and grandmothers during the time when RSVP was ignored then with my friends during their relatives’ weddings and now I am attending weddings of friends. I’ve also brought home a lot of wedding favors. Before, the usual souvenirs were figurines, and then there was a time when CDs with the bridal couple’s favourite songs were the rage. Now, in order to kill two birds with one stone, the wedding cake is made up of cupcakes that also double as wedding souvenirs after the reception. I guess everybody is cutting corners these days, even giddy brides.
