The yellow metered airport taxis in NAIA were a pleasant surprise. When I arrived from Korea it was late Thursday night so no one was able to fetch me. I was worrying how I was going to get home since I knew airport taxis cost the earth and it’s very difficult to get out of NAIA on foot with very heavy luggage in order to get a cheaper taxi ride out of the airport. Without any more options, Ate Rita and I decided to inquire how much the rate of the yellow airport taxis were. I was used to flate rates by areas from airport taxis in the Domestic and Centennial Airports so I was surprised when the dispatcher told me that the taxis were metered and cost about twice as much as the regular taxis. I asked him to approximate how much from the airport to our place. When he mentioned not more than five hundred pesos I decided to try it out. The computation was P70 flag down rate for the first 500 meters then P4 for every succeeding 300 meters.
If I remember correctly, my total was less than P350 considering that the taxi stopped to refuel and by my count he should have deducted P12 from my bill. Hehehe…It was even cheaper than the flat rate of Basic taxi from our place to the airport which is P400. What was also nice about the airport taxi was that it issued an official receipt in case you need one for reimbursement purposes.
So for my friends abroad who are contemplating of coming home and they have nobody to fetch them, take the yellow metered airport taxis in NAIA. It’s much safer because there is somebody who keeps track of the taxis and the destination of the passengers and it’s cheaper than the airport taxis with flat rates for specific areas.

Been there last June and I found that there are new policies there on Taxi’s. There are still choices if you want flat rate, yellow metered, and regular metered taxi’s. But what the heck, several passengers ahead of me were already waiting for more than 2 hours when I arrived at the regular metered terminal. After some inquiries regarding the long wait, I learned that the admin. has this new’ policy’: no regular metered taxi will enter NAIA 3 to fetch arriving passengers if not all yellow metered taxis are able to get passengers. What the …, is this a joke? I thought this is a democratic country where we can choose freely. To ensure that this ‘policy’ is implemented, they closed the exit gate fronting the airport leaving you no choice but to wait for a regualr-metered or ride an expensive yellow-metered taxi. I hope the media man who was complaining about this to the personnel in-charged at that time will be able to escalate this to the proper people or even publicize this through the media. Haay, only in the Philippines ei!

Hello Malignant, ofcourse you can never have the best of both worlds pal… sorry for your dissapointment but you must also understand why they should prioritize the “yellow metered taxis” in the airport terminals.. I know this is because, they are exclusive to customers - to and from the airport.. meaning they can’t just pick someone up from the street and take them to mega mall or somewhere. Also, i guess the “extra” charge is well worth paying for, dont you think? i have seen a lot of these taxis within the metro and i haven’t seen one that is on poor condition… all i’ve seen are taxis that are clean and well maintained - being driven by professional looking drivers… added points to my observation was a pleasant look on their passengers faces.. happy? I guess so because of the condition of their ride. Also, sorry to dissapoint you but if you have been travelling much…you might want reconsider saying “only in the Philippines” because i have been to a lot of countries that are much worse my friend =).
by the way, i am a fan of these taxis…. i dont bother relatives to fetch me at the airport whenever I arrive from my trips - and the hell will i trust the regular metered taxi.. not only that they rip you off because you are balik-bayan or you get stressed from inhaling LPG fume from their aircon vent. Haha.

Friends, beware of this metered taxi too. Some of them will try to extort money from u esp if u are a first time passenger. Last year, I hired one and was only billed P170+ to my place in edsa crossing so it was really better compared to the precomputed airport taxi. Sadly, a friend who also lived near me, was billed P600.
Just this month, I again sought their service. Upon arrival to my place, the driver said it was P500. as in flat P500 pesos daw. He arrived on that figure after making some pindot in his peculiar looking meter (dunno kung yun ang bago, coz it’s not d usual one in red LED lights).
Prior to that I saw 180+ numbers that I assumed to be the right amount. I complained and mentioned that that’s not the usual amount I paid kahit p medyo tumaas na ang fare. He just told me to pay with the usual rate I got. Gave him P250, humirit pa so I ended up paying him P300. Plus P100 pa pala sa mga dispatcher nila na talagang nanghingi ng pang meryenda just after loading my 2 piece luggage. No sweat at all!
Grabe talaga! DI naman sila lahat ganun kaya be aware nalang po. Me mga magsasamantala talaga.
Cheers!

I had a yellow taxi last when I arrived from HKG and was surprised to pay P786 since the meter counted 54Km from NAIA1 to Timog QC. this distance is only about 20km. Looks these yellow taxi does not charge high rates but fast/uncalibrated meters. I already filed a complain thru txt and call. Hope actions will be done. Plate number is TYN357.

Me and my wife went home last dec 19, took this yellow metered taxi and got stuck in traffic at edsa. To my surprise the bill was less than P400 from Naia to our place in Proj 8. Seven days after, we took the same cab on our way home from our holiday in Laoag Ilocos norte. I noticed the meter was intentionally covered at the portion of total bill (red digits).

19 admin // Feb 8, 2010 at 7:19 am

22 admin // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:23 pm
it is supposed to be safe kasi nakadocument yung pag-alis ng taxi sa airport but from the comments i have received meron pa ding mga nagtatake advantage na drivers. by the way, di ko po airport taxi yun. nakasakay lang po ako minsan. you can try this number to check how much it will cost from the airport to your place 09214487777. have a safe trip.
23 yer // Feb 9, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Tnx
25 admin // Feb 24, 2010 at 11:22 pm
